As most who live hereabouts know, Elton Hall Estate is hosting our village shindig in Elton Hall Gardens to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee on Monday 4 June. But what you don't know is, we're - quite literally - bringing the Crown. The organisers have very kindly asked us if we'd fulfill the second most important duty of the day, and provide the bar. Of course we said we'd be delighted, so you'll see a sort of Crown Inn in miniature down at Elton Hall on the big day. So please come and say hello and have a drink - we'd love to see you!!

Glorious fig salad and perfect panacotta - that was the verdict given by the first-ever winner of our new "Review Us" competition. Every three months one lucky reviewer will be drawn out of this old hat we've got to win a night's stay for two, with a three-course dinner, wine and breakfast - completely on us! Our first winner is Leigh Howson, who reviewed us after having dinner here with her friends. She said: "I went onto the website to submit a review as I was very impressed with the food and service that night. I had completely forgotten about it until I received an email saying I was a winner. We had a thoroughly enjoyable free stay and everything we could have wanted was included free of charge - it really is a great prize and so easy to enter." The competition was Marcus' idea, and it's part of our drive to get as much feedback for you our customers as possible. Good or bad, it makes a huge difference to the way we do things so is very valuable. Next draw will be in the Autumn - probably in time for the new menu I'd have thought- so come on, get reviewing and you could win too!! Hear from you soon!

Marcus Backs Hairy Bikers Over Masterchef

Our Chef Owner Marcus Lamb, says The Hairy Bikers are the true masterchefs. Simon King and David Myers' latest hit series Mum Still Knows Best attracts two million viewers every Tuesday night on BBC2 - less than half the audience for Wednesday evening's cooking contest Masterchef. "But on this occasion I think the great British viewing public has got it wrong and it's not just because I'm a Geordie," said Marcus. Our wizard with the pots and pans, Marcus, was born in Newcastle, like Hairy Biker Simon King, and just like Simon and his cooking partner Dave is a great believer in the quality of recipes passed down by our mothers. "My passion for cooking started when I used to help my Mum in the kitchen. I probably got in the way, but I certainly started learning how to cook. And the food she made was fantastic. I still use some of her recipes in The Crown today. Our food is very much like The Hairy Bikers - local ingredients, cooked well to make wholesome traditional meals."
